To make it easier for you, we've organized our complete line of canoe models into three distinct categories based on how they function on the water and their intended use, but if you have any trouble locating what you are looking for, please contact us directly and speak to one of our experienced staff members so we can discuss the ideal craft for your requirements.
The first consideration in choosing your canoe is to determine what type of canoeist you are. It's getting very common for paddlers to own several types of boats to accommodate a variety of paddling environments. But for now, let's get you started on choosing your first boat.
First you need to determine what type of paddling you will be doing. Some like to spend an entire week canoe touring, while others like the lazy rivers and others like to hit the faster rivers or would prefer estuary and bay exploration and fishing. Most recreational canoes are versatile enough to efficiently move through a variety of types of conditions efficiently (by efficiency we mean a boat that paddles easily with your power and skills).
You also need to determine how many passengers are going to be in your boat. Are you paddling solo or with a partner? Do you have small children you want to take along? These are all considerations when shopping for the right craft and you will need to consider a canoe type designed for that specific type of situation.
Okay, let’s get started. Ask yourself the following questions to decide what type of canoeist you are and determine what type of canoe to purchase.
- Will you paddle rivers, lakes or estuaries?
- Will you paddle short day trips or extended canoe camping trips?
- Who will be your paddling partners?
There are many canoe models to choose from and they all offer their own advantages for different types of paddling.

| Recreational canoes |
|
Recreational canoes are designed to be versatile enough for paddlers who want to move efficiently on lakes and also slow moving rivers and creeks under normal conditions. These boats offer superior stability on the water and a larger load capacity accommodating for the movement you might experience from activities such as paddling with small children, fishing or exploring new paddling areas with the family.
Recreational canoes are not designed for any specific type of paddling they are viewed as the “all rounder” of the range and have been utilized by hire opperators and school fleets requiring stable maneuverable and durable designs within Australia for over 30 years.
The recreational models have a large payload capacity and will easily accommodate enough gear from a day on the water or extended canoe trip. This is a comprehensive range and provides the size and capacity to suit your paddling and participant requirements creating the ideal recreational platform for the next adventure.

| Touring canoes |
|
A touring canoe will be your best choice if you intend on paddling slow moving rivers and require more maneuverability or for extended touring and longer distance river tripping as these designs are capable of covering great distances easily and provide increased maneuverability.
These boats are faster and more maneuverable than the recreational canoes but take a little more getting used to than recreational canoes. Touring canoes don't have the primary stability that the recreational boats have, they do however have superior secondary stability that enables them to maneuver and perform efficiently in more technical situations.
The larger models in the touring range (18ft & 20ft) offer higher volumes meaning that they are capable of hauling larger amounts of gear proficiently. If you are going to do major canoe trips lasting a week or longer, or if you intend to bring along the kitchen sink, then you might want to consider these models.
Our touring canoes were designed with the purist in mind combining advanced characteristics to ensure maximum hull speed, improved glide, excellent tracking ability and higher secondary stability with a traditional recurved stem and tumblehome design ensuring exceptional maneuverability in order to create the ideal performance touring platform.

| Fishing canoes |
|
Rosco Bass Catcher canoes are designed for a variety of outdoor activities including but not limited to hunting & fishing. Fishing from a canoe has many advantages over dinghies and other smaller water craft. Canoes are quiet and their portability makes them a top choice for anglers interested in remote backwaters, or light bay conditions.
These platform canoes offer high initial stability and are versatile enough to be paddled and come equipped with transom sterns for mounting up to a 4hp motor. Our fishing canoes feature a flared bow and V-hull on the larger models to ensure an efficient dry ride in choppy conditions as well as a shallow keel on the stern to maintain excellent tracking ability.
Canoe fishing can be a good way to target your favorite fish and after tinkering, and add-ons, your canoe can be transformed into a customized comfortable fishing machine providing a lightweight, portable and extremely comfortable platform that will ensure your comfort whether sitting or standing.
Although not designed for big water, Bass Catcher Canoes can be modified with outriggers to provide a stable platform capable of handling light bay conditions. Try some of our suggestions for outfitting your canoe and you'll find a new appreciation for the stability and fishing functionality of these versatile craft.
