MINN KOTA MOTORS

    QUESTIONS :

1). What size canoe will you be using ?
2). Will it be for freshwater use or saltwater ?
3). Will it form a major part of your movement or only intermittent use ?
4). How much wait would you normally carry….for example:
A  Bass Catcher 500 laden with two big blokes and a large payload may want a larger motor.
5). Make sure an outboard motor is not more suited…e.g large distances in big lake.

WHY USE AN ELECTRIC MOTOR ?

An electric motor offers a clean and environmentally effective form of motoring. It is offers stealth performance (quiet) and the motors are easy to use, safe and lightweight.

They are ideally suited to canoes as they are light, small craft and can be easily moved with the smallest of electric motors. Many impoundments also now have tough restrictions on outboard motors making electrics more appealing.

    MINN KOTA VS THE REST:

Minn Kota is a market leader in marine electric motors. Some of the stand out features include :

1)      A composite shaft……more flex than Stainless equivalents.
2)      Minn  Kota’s run quieter.
3)      Maximiser technology provides a more controlled supply of power, resulting in longer running time…available on certain models.
4)      Minn Kota motors run cooler because of larger brushes in base…means they are more efficient.

    ELECTRIC MOTORS & CANOES :

The trick is to match the motor with the canoe. Remember canoes are not like tinnies, they are smaller, thus the motors recommended tend to meet those boundaries. We usually extend the cables, so that the battery can be placed towards the middle of the canoe. The shaft should be 30” on smaller canoes & 36” on larger canoes, ( the back of the Minn Kota brochure provides all the statistics.
